eCommerce pioneers, still leading the way
The Solid Cactus time-line begins in 1994 when entrepreneurs Scott Sanfilippo and Joe Palko pioneered one of the first online stores, TheFerretStore.com. Sanfilippo and Palko grew their home-based pet store into a multi-brand, multi-million dollar company with 39 pet-related eCommerce stores.
The pair’s years of experience as eCommerce business owners laid a solid foundation for starting web design firm Solid Cactus in 2001. Since then, the company has designed or redesigned over 3,500 online stores on several leading eCommerce platforms, developed dozens of innovative store features, and built several software tools. A total eCommerce solutions provider, Solid Cactus expanded its offerings to include managed services for Internet marketing and call center services. Solid Cactus publishes the bi-monthly eBiz Insider magazine and hosts several eCommerce conferences (Boot Camp) each year.
In 2009, Solid Cactus was acquired by Web.com (NASDAQ:WWWW), a leading provider of online tools and marketing services for small businesses. Through its network of individual brands, Web.com offers a full-range of easy-to-use solutions that meet the needs of small businesses anywhere along their life-cycle. Since its establishment in 1997, over 15 million online businesses have been launched and managed with tools and services offered by Web.com. Today, Web.com has a force of over 800 creative and technical folks working at locations around the country.
Solid Cactus’ roots are planted in old coal country, where the values of hard work ring true: The Solid Cactus Technology Center is in Shavertown, Pennsylvania, with Solid Cactus Call Center just a few miles away in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
